Arthur Alexander

After being a fan of Arthur Alexander in the early sixties he seemed to drop out of sight, occassional records but very little else seemed to appear, this book puts the record straight and fills in all those gaps. It also goes a long way to answering the reasons that he did not make it to the position in the music scene that his undoubted talent deserved. The book is very well written by Richard Younger who obviously felt very deeply about the subject, he deals with the problems that AA encountered in his music career and his private life. It was sad that at the very time that AA was begining to make a comeback and he was again showing the talent that was always there he was taken from us. He had become religious during the last few years and this seemed to have a calming effect on him and I am sure that he would have again had big selling records. Thank you Richard for an insight into the life of Arthur Alexander through the highs and lows.

Played bass guitar for The Beatles in the 1960s. Considered the most successful pop composer of all time. In the "Guinness Book of World Records" for most records sold, most #1s (shared) and largest paid audience for a concert (350,000+ people, 1989 in Brazil). After the Beatles, he formed Wings, one of the most commercially successful groups of the 1970s. Post-70s solo career has been sporadic in both commercial and artistic terms. Successes include albums "Tug of War" and "Flowers in the Dirt".

Two of Dolores O'Riordan's as-yet unreleased songs leaked to the Internet today, titled "Letting Go" and "In Your Garden."The first, "Letting Go," was posted anonymously to the Zombieguide Forums this morning, and the second, "In Your Garden," came this evening. The songs are labeled as demo versions and appear to come from a 5-track preview CD. "Letting Go" is the first track from that CD. "In Your Garden" is the fifth track.With the verse "She’ll be with your father / And they will be one / In heaven, in heaven," the song "Letting Go" appears to inspired by the death of Dolores's mother-in-law in 2004. Mrs. Burton's illness was cited as one of the reasons for The Cranberries' hiatus in September of 2003.

FRANKIE AVALON

The tempo is slightly faster than the moderate speed in the original version I often hear on the radio. Since Venus is the Roman goddess of love, the narrator is sure that what he requests of her can't be too much for her to grant. All he wants is a girl who will give him, and to whom he can give, a lifetime of love. The original version doesn't fade out, but this one does. Frankie had more hits, but this is the only one I ever hear on the radio.

William Maybray

William Maybray, Jr.: "The Rapper" was written by Donnie Iris and featured Bill Maybray, Sr on drums. The song's premise was that of a guy who was your stereotypical self proclaimed 'God's gift to women.' The song was simply what Donnie and the rest of the Jaggerz saw in the clubs night after night. Guys trying to hit on women and using their best lines. Hence the now famous line of "Come Up To My Place, For Some Coffee, Tea, or Me....". And as the song states they're everywhere - "On A Bus, In A Bar, In A Grocery Store."
Any speculation that the song had any relation to Jack The Ripper or suggested the act of finding a girl and raping her is completely and totally false.

Ronnie Rice Alive!

newly released "live" CD at a high energy level, with an enthusiastic audience participating in the sing-a-long activities that Ronnie is famous for in his live performances. The "Alive!" CD is 51:53 minutes long, comprised of 37 songs (including Ronnie's hits I Will Always Think About You and Things I'd Like To Say [Baby Baby!]). It is broken down into six (6) Medleys (tracks), each between 8-11 minutes long.

Andreas Ludwig Priwin

b. Andreas Ludwig Priwin, 6 April 1929, Berlin, Germany. After studying music in Berlin and Paris, Previn moved to the USA in 1938 when his family emigrated. Resident in Los Angeles, he continued his studies and while still at school worked as a jazz pianist and as an arranger in the film studios. From the mid-40s he made records with some measure of success, but it was in the middle of the following decade that he achieved his greatest renown. The breakthrough came with a series of jazz albums with Shelly Manne, the first of which featured music from the popular show My Fair Lady. Previn recorded with lyricist Dory Langdon, whom he later married. The marriage broke up in 1965 and was controversially chronicled in Dory Previn's later solo recordings.

Bobby Rydell

The teen idols' teen idol, Rydell is known equally for his youth-oriented hits - including his first, released in 1959, "Kissin' Time" followed by "Wild One," "Swingin' School" as well as his pop/adult repertoire including "Forget Him," "Volare" and "Sway." The package includes 25 tracks including the rare "A Message From Bobby" as well as his version of Lennon and McCartney's "A World Without Love."

Orleans

For the most part, yes. Much of Katrina's and Rita's worst effects occurred east of the city, while several of the town's most artistically important areas suffered only minor flood damage. In addition, wind damage was largely insignificant in the French Quarter, Uptown, and the Central Business District -- it's the storm surge caused by the wind that does the real work, and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, sadly, bore the brunt of most of the heavy winds. With that in mind, here's a look at how the Crescent City landmarks of rock history weathered the tragedy.

New Orleans

New Orleans' musical landmarks are many, but they mainly encompass jazz (and, no matter what the national media keeps insisting, there's never been a real blues scene here). But from approximately 1954-1975, New Orleans was one of the premier rock and roll cities in America, birthing R&B, godfathering soul, and helping invent funk. We already know what damage Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the ensuing flood wrought on The City That Care Forgot, but when it comes to the city's rock landmarks, then and now, no one gives them the attention they're due. Did the cradles and breeding grounds of New Orleans rock -some of the most musically important and fertile areas in the history of America -make out okay?
